Overview

How to lubricate a gear reducer? Lubrication of the reducer is a very important part of reducer maintenance. Open and semi-open gear reducer transmissions, or closed gear transmissions with lower speeds, usually use manual periodic oil lubrication. The lubricant used is lubricating oil or grease.

How should gear reducers be lubricated? Lubrication of reducers is a crucial aspect of their maintenance. Open and semi-open gear reducers, or closed gear reducers with lower speeds, are typically lubricated periodically by hand using lubricating oil or grease.

Reducer lubrication has its own specific requirements, varying across different reducers. Let's look at how Shanghai Furun Reducer lubricates its gear reducers.

When the gear's circumferential speed exceeds 12 m/s, oil mist lubrication should be used. This involves an oil pump or central lubrication station supplying oil at a certain pressure, using nozzles to spray the lubricating oil onto the meshing surfaces of the teeth. When v ≤ 25 m/s, nozzles can be placed at either the tooth engagement or exit side; when v > 25 m/s, nozzles should be positioned at the tooth exit side to cool the recently engaged teeth with lubricating oil while simultaneously lubricating them.

The lubrication method for general closed gear reducers depends on the circumferential speed of the gear. When the gear's circumferential speed V < 12 m/s, the gear teeth are often immersed in oil for immersion lubrication. In this way, the lubricating oil is carried to the meshing tooth surfaces during transmission and also splashed onto the casing walls for heat dissipation. The depth of gear immersion in oil depends on the circumferential speed. For cylindrical gears, it usually does not exceed one tooth height but should generally not be less than 10mm; for bevel gears, full tooth width immersion is recommended, or at least half the tooth width. In multi-stage gear transmissions, an oil wheel can be used to transfer oil to the gear tooth surfaces not immersed in the oil bath.

The amount of oil in the oil sump depends on the power transmitted by the gears. For single-stage transmissions, the required oil volume is approximately 0.35~0.7L per kW of power transmitted. For multi-stage transmissions, the oil requirement increases exponentially with the number of stages.
